US Personal Income m/m
What it means
US Personal Income m/m measures the monthly change in income received by households from wages and salaries, proprietors’ income, investment income and government transfers. It is not the same as consumer spending, payroll employment or disposable income after taxes. The composition matters: wage income can reflect labour-market strength, while transfers or investment income may move for different reasons. Read the result with Personal Spending, the saving rate, inflation and wages to assess households’ capacity to consume. Nominal income growth should also be considered against price changes. Markets compare Actual with Forecast and revisions, particularly because the release is part of the broader income-and-spending report. A surprise can influence views on demand, inflation persistence and Fed policy risk, but one month does not define the household trend or USD direction.
