US Core Durable Goods Orders m/m measures the monthly change in new orders for durable manufactured goods after excluding transportation. Durable goods are items expected to last at least three years. Removing transportation reduces the effect of volatile aircraft and vehicle orders, but the series can still be revised and is not the same as shipments, production or consumer spending. The Census Bureau publishes an advance estimate and later revisions. Markets compare the reading with the forecast and inspect business-equipment components and revisions for clues about capital spending.
