USD — Advance GDP Price Index q/q

What it means

US Advance GDP Price Index q/q is the first estimate of the annualized change in prices for goods and services produced in the United States. Published by the BEA with advance GDP, the GDP price index has broader production coverage than the CPI and includes prices of exports while excluding imports because imports are produced abroad. It is a chain-type price measure and the quarterly change is stated at an annual rate.

Actual above Forecast can raise inflation and Federal Reserve rate expectations, supporting yields or USD, but markets usually weigh it alongside the GDP composition, PCE price indexes and newer monthly inflation data. The GDP deflator can move because the mix of output changes as well as because individual prices change, so it should not be read as the household cost-of-living rate. The advance estimate relies on incomplete source data and will be revised in the second and third GDP releases. Compare it with the gross domestic purchases price index, which covers goods and services bought by U.S. residents, and with core PCE for the Fed’s preferred underlying consumer-inflation signal.
