EUR — ECB Press Conference
What it means
The ECB Press Conference follows the Governing Council's monetary-policy decision. The ECB President presents the Monetary Policy Statement, the Vice-President participates, and journalists ask questions about rates, inflation, growth, forecasts, balance-sheet policy and financial conditions. The Q&A can clarify the conditions under which the Council may hold, cut or raise rates and can add nuance not visible in the decision headline.
The event is not a second rate decision and it has no standard Actual, Forecast or Previous statistic. Traders compare the President's language with the prior meeting, current staff projections and the path already priced in money markets. Questions about policy transmission, wage growth, fiscal policy or fragmentation can shift the interpretation of an otherwise unchanged announcement.
More concern about persistent inflation can lift euro-area yields and support EUR, while stronger confidence in disinflation or greater downside concern can lower both. Reactions may reverse during the conference as different answers change the balance of risks. Country-specific bond spreads can move differently from the euro.
Headlines often remove conditional wording. Verify remarks in the official transcript or video, distinguish the President's explanation from a pre-commitment and consider the complete Governing Council package. Policy remains data-dependent and meeting-by-meeting.
