Bank of Canada Summary of Deliberations

The Bank of Canada Summary of Deliberations explains the Governing Council's assessment behind a policy-rate decision. It is normally published after the decision and adds detail on how officials weighed inflation, domestic demand, the labour market, housing, financial conditions and global risks. Canada does not publish an individual vote tally: the Council reaches decisions by consensus, so the document should be read for changes in the balance of risks and in the conditions that would justify easing or further restraint. Markets compare its language with the policy statement, Monetary Policy Report and press conference. A more persistent-inflation or upside-risk emphasis can support Canadian yields and CAD; stronger concern about growth or downside inflation risks can have the opposite effect. It is context, not a trading signal by itself.
