Japan Final Manufacturing PMI

What it means

Japan Final Manufacturing PMI is the confirmed version of a survey-based diffusion index for manufacturing activity. A PMI is not industrial production: it asks purchasing managers about changes in output, new orders, employment, suppliers’ deliveries, inventories and prices. The 50 level commonly separates expansion from contraction in the survey, while the change and sub-indices show breadth and momentum. Because this is the final release, markets compare it with the earlier flash estimate; a small confirmation may have less impact than a material revision. Read it with export demand, industrial production and business-investment data. The result can sharpen the view of manufacturing conditions and JPY-related growth expectations, but a survey is not a direct forecast of GDP or BOJ policy.
