Japan Final GDP Price Index y/y measures the annual change in prices of all domestically produced final goods and services, using the final GDP estimate. It is the GDP deflator: a broad output-price measure derived from nominal and real GDP, not the Consumer Price Index and not real GDP growth. Its coverage and weights differ from household-consumption inflation, so it can move differently from CPI. The final release may revise earlier estimates as national-account source data are updated. Read the figure with the preliminary value, domestic demand and price measures such as CPI and wages. A surprise can inform the inflation backdrop for Bank of Japan policy and JPY, but it is not a standalone policy signal.
