UK Financial Policy Committee Statement
What it means
The UK Financial Policy Committee Statement sets out the Bank of England FPC’s current view of risks to the resilience of the UK financial system and any macroprudential action or recommendation. It may address credit growth, bank capital, household debt, property markets, market liquidity and non-bank finance. The FPC’s mandate is financial stability, so this statement is distinct from an MPC rate decision. Markets focus on whether the committee sees risks as building or easing and whether its tools could change lending conditions. Read it with the accompanying Financial Stability Report; it is context for financial-stability policy, not a standalone forecast for interest rates or the pound.
